Thursday, June 09, 2005Anger & Temptation
There has been a lot of great conversation going on at my church in regards to the topic of anger & Sin. Before I post on what we came up with, I thought that I would open up the conversation to our on-line readers and get your thoughts on the subject ( I guess this is somewhat of a poll). I will give this a few days and then I will post the teaching notes from our classes and take more comments. These are the two questions:
Is Anger Sin? Is Temptation Sin? We look forward to your comments!
Comments:
1) No, anger is not sin. The bible would nottells us to be angry and sin not if anger was a sin in itself.
2) No, temptation is not sin. Jesus lived on this earth without sinning but everyone knows that Satan tempted Jesus on the mountain after his fast.
I would like to respond to the question about Temptation. It is interesting that you would be discussing this question. I teach a Training for Service Class and this is what we were talking about this evening. There are several definitions of Temptation. Enticement to do wrong (Jas. 1:13-14). Desire to do someting bad that appeals to you. Temptation comes from Satan and is deceptive (Luke 4:1-13). God can help you avoid it and keep you from giving into it (Luke 11:4; 1 Cor. 10:13)
Temptation is not a sin, but yielding to it is. Enduring temptation with out giving in brings blessing and spiritual growth (Jas. 1:12 Let me go a little further to say that there are two forms of temptation. A. Testing Under Trial 1. Controlled by God - Job 1:12:2:6 2. For our Good: a. Increases our patience - James 1:3 b. Strengthens our Faith - 1 Peter 1:6,7 c. Develops holiness of life - Hebrews 12:11. Illustrations: Abram - Genesis 22:1; Lord Jesus - Luke 22:28; Hebrews 5:8. Sudy in light of above - James 1:1-12. B. Solicitation to evil: Study James 1:13-16 1. Never comes from God. 2. Satan uses our own natural tendencies to sin: a. Varied to meet individual weaknesses. b. The purpose is to reveal our own weakness to ourselves. c. Satan has three avenues of approach - "the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life" 1 John 2:16 Illustration: Temptation of Eve - Genesis 3. Temptation of Christ - Matthew 4:1-11
I agree with the child of GOD because of what the WORD say. God is the word and he can't lie. No anger is not a sin and temptation is not a sin.
